Maps and Mapping


Lecture Notes:

Map - a representation - outline - surface features - layout.

Many different types of maps - representations through artistic means - mapping life or a life path - metaphors

Maps - represent territory - ownership - definition of borders/ownership

Artistic representation through colour, printing techniques, various methods - represents the culture - difference between western culture

Importance in maps, to help, to structure, to define, to inform, to direct

MAPS IN ART:

Footprints - journeys - pathways - photography - evidence of existence - engaging with experience 

Allowing for direction to help further study and appreciation of areas.

Maps can also be taken away from their literal sense - mapping something for it's qualities, the difference between cultures etc.

Mapping areas for their eccentricities - defining them with their differences
