The Clock
One of the first things that we did as part of our lecture series, was to go down to the British Art Show at Royal William Yard. As part of the exhibition, Christian Marclay's 24 hour film "The Clock" was showing and we were invited to spend a short amount of time there, viewing the film.
I was instantly blown away by the film, it was captivating, and completely engulfing when led into that dark room with only one thing to look at. I found myself in awe and fascinated by every single scene and wanting to figure out which shot was from what film.
Throughout the years, film arts has changed so dramatically with the advance in technology, and this film is a great example of how you can see this transition. It's also a great way to view so many different types of art, and graphic design, in the small things, such as in posters on shop windows, the use of interfaces on computers and how logos have changed through the years.
It's also an incredible example of, and insight into space, place and time. The transitory nature of the scenes makes it a really interesting visual journey, which represents so much more in terms of how we view and interact with the 'idea' of time.
I genuinely think it's an incredible piece of work and something that I think will go down in history as a masterpiece. I feel very honoured to have witnessed this.
